Every winter, tens of thousands of red-billed gulls fly from Siberia to overwinter in Kunming, soaring and feeding at Dianchi Lake, Green Lake, and elsewhere — the most lively sight of the spring city's winter, and a "seasonal attraction" many travelers come for.

• Arrive: about late Oct–early Nov each year
• Peak: December–February most numerous and concentrated
• Depart: about March the following year
