Pumo Yumco is one of Tibet's highest freshwater lakes. In winter the surface freezes into translucent blue ice, with cracks and bubbles glowing an unreal blue under the sun — called "China's Lake Baikal."

🧊 Blue Ice Season

• Best months: January–February, thickest, most complete blue ice
• December/March: thinner ice or starting to melt, higher risk
• Timing: sunny days show the clearest blue

Note: blue ice is seasonal, only in winter; in summer it's an ordinary lake.

⚠️ Safety & Highland Notes (Very Important)

1. 5,000 m elevation: high altitude sickness risk is extreme; bring oxygen and acclimatize
2. Walk on ice with care: confirm ice thickness, follow a guide, don't walk on blindly
3. Extreme cold: winter temps very low (below -20°C); full cold protection
4. Protect phone/camera from low temperature (spare batteries, insulation)
5. Border area needs a border permit
