• Tongmai: the former "Tongmai risk" — now with bridges and tunnels, much safer
• Pailong: the Yarlung Tsangpo canyon section
• Bomi: snow mountains and glaciers, famous for peach blossoms (spring)

• Overall: mostly paved, much improved from before
• Tongmai section: the old "risk" now has bridges/tunnels, safer driving
• Canyon sections: still many curves and cliff edges; control speed
• Season: summer rains may cause landslides/mudflows; be cautious in the rainy season
• Recommended: SUV is safer; bring emergency gear
