Itinerary
Arrive in Dali with 24-hour free airport pickup. In the afternoon, wander Dali Old Town or watch the sunset over Erhai Lake to warm up for the autumn journey.
Head to the millennium-old Bai village of Nuodeng, exploring the Han-dynasty salt well ruins and the old salt-horse trail, visiting the Nuodeng Confucian Temple and Yuhuang Pavilion. Dinner features the famous Nuodeng ham.
Drive to Tengchong and head straight for Jiangdong Ginkgo Village. In late autumn, 3,000 ancient ginkgo trees glow gold, their leaves carpeting the ground - a photographer's dream.
Wander Heshun in the morning: the library, laundry pavilions, and curved buildings in the dawn light. In the afternoon, visit Rehai to see the Big Boiling Pot, soak in natural sulfur springs, and boil eggs with spring water.
Follow the border road to Ruili, visiting the Moli Waterfall and Wanding Bridge. Arrive in Mangshi in the evening, check in, and explore the Tree-Wrapped Pagoda with a Dai-flavored supper.
Visit the Mangwan Golden Pagoda in the morning, overlooking Mangshi from above. Transfer to the airport according to your flight. Mangshi has its own airport; you may also return to Dali to continue. End of the 6-day autumn journey.
