The Kaidu River winds into continuous S-curves across the Bayanbulak grassland. At sunset, when the sun aligns with the end of the winding channel, the water reflects multiple sun points, creating the "nine suns" (or more) optical wonder. It appears in summer-autumn when the sunset position aligns with the river's direction.

📍 Viewing Location

• Nine-Bend Eighteen-Curve viewpoint (inside Bayanbulak scenic area, also called "Basilike Viewpoint")
• Perched high above the whole river bend — the only best spot for the sunset
• Take the scenic shuttle (~30–40 min) from the gate to near the viewpoint, then walk or take a short shuttle to the platform

⏰ Best Time (Key)

Months: June–September (summer-autumn) is the classic season, especially late August to mid-September when the sunset aligns best.

Within a day:

• Arrive 1.5–2 hours early to secure your spot (enter 2 hours before sunset)
• 30 minutes before sunset through sunset is the golden window — soft light, clearest reflections
• Xinjiang sunsets late; summer ~21:00–21:30, autumn ~20:00–20:30, check the day's actual time

Avoid: rainy/cloudy days (no reflections); the viewpoint gets crowded, so arrive early.

📷 Shooting Tips

1. Use a telephoto (70–200mm or longer) to compress the river bends
2. Use a tripod for the sunset long exposure
3. Light changes fast around sunset; adjust exposure compensation to avoid overexposing the water
