Itinerary
Arrive in Xining, 24-hour free pickup. Check into hotel. Free time to explore Xining, taste hand-grabbed lamb, niangpi, sweet ferment, and other Northwest specialties. Acclimatize for the loop journey.
[~596km] Depart Xining westward. Visit Qinghai Lake — vast blue highland sacred lake. Afternoon: Chaka Salt Lake — stroll white salt flats, photograph mirror-of-the-sky reflections. Arrive in Delingha.
[~600km] Visit viral Da Qaidam Emerald Lake — turquoise waters and white salt flats like scattered gems. Pass abandoned Oil Town film location for retro Gobi vibes. Cross Qaidam Basin. Arrive in Silk Road hub Dunhuang.
Morning: Mogao Caves UNESCO World Heritage — millennium murals and sculptures, Silk Road stories. Afternoon: Mingsha Mountain — camel riding, desert walk, await stunning sunset over dunes and Crescent Lake.
[~600km] East along Hexi Corridor. Visit Jiayuguan Pass — 'First and Greatest Pass Under Heaven.' Afternoon: Zhangye Seven-Color Danxia — red, orange, yellow, green layered landforms. Sunset light transformation. Overnight in Zhangye.
[~360km] Cross Biandukou Canyon. Enter Qilian Grassland — snow mountains, endless pastures, grazing herds. Summer: Menyuan ten-thousand-mu rapeseed flower sea. Return to Xining for airport drop-off. Trip concludes. (No next-day drop-off service.)
